Yoga for Male Infertility


Yoga has many ways of improving fertility. There are Physiological , Psychological and Neurological Changes, when Asanas are practiced regularly.

At GIFT IVF center we promote yoga for male and female infertility and advise yoga to improve sperm parameters , to improve sexual performance by increasing circulation and flexibility , to compact stress and to reduce Weight .

The main function of the yoga is improvement in blood circulation. It helps in release of hormones from the various glands as they get squeezed during the asanas. The stretching of the nerves helps in improving the neurological functions, the stretching also helps in relaxation of the body and the mind. Certain asanas helps in pooling of blood in reproductive organs and certain other asanas avoid pooling of blood in the veins (peripherals).

Internal organs get massaged, thus improving their functions. Praanayama (breathing exercise) improves oxygenation and reduces carbon dioxide in the body and also increases the lung capacity.
Padahasthasana:

The Pelvis and the Spine gets fully stretched , thus stretching the nerves , improving the neurological function . This helps in attaining and maintaining erection in men. erectile problems are quite embarrassing for male partners, and often results is marital issues .Yoga can completely cure certain forms of erectile dysfunction.

Virabadrasana:

There is extreme stretching of pelvic nerves, which helps in the neurological function; this posture also helps in reducing the temperature of Scrotum which in turn helps with the motility of sperms. The temperature of scrotum increases due to prolonged sitting as in office jobs, especially when laptops are used causing male infertility . Asthenospermia (reduced motility) is commonly seen in white collar job officials.

Navasana:

As the body is lifted except for pelvic region, there is a pooling of blood in the pelvis .the rich blood circulation nourishes the pelvic organs and helps in improved sperm production and also helps in removing the toxic cellular waste. Oligospermia is a condition where sperm count is low and they benefit from this yogasana .Also this asanam improves concentration, calms the mind and reduces the stress from the modern day life.

Naukasana:

Now it is time for some grinding. In this yogic pose , lower Abdomen and thighs and pelvic organs are squeezed. Reproductive functions are improved .Stretching of lower abdomen muscles provides an internal massage to the pelvic organs,additional benefits are gained from pooling of blood to the same area. The spinal nerves get stretched, which helps in calming and improves the neurological function.

The blood pooling in varicose veins are reduced , this is helpful in testicular varicocoele, a common condition in male sub fertility.

Gomukasana:

The pelvis gets tilted and rotated, thus Squeezing the pelvic organs and this internal massage helps the reproductive organs.The circulation is improved , it helps reducing cholesterol and fat around visceral organs.

Bujangasana:

This cobra pose asana opens up the lungs , increasing the oxygen consumption; the body gets purified, with extra oxygenation .It also helps in relaxation of the mind. There is stretching of spine , which improves the sympathetic and parasympathetic activities, any tiredness due to long working hours, travelling , pollution or bad posture are rectified with bujangasana. It is a common complaint that we hear from patients, that they were too tired to have sexual intercourse.

Ardhapavanamukthasana:

When the thighs are squeezed on to the abdomen and chest, as in the asana the pancreatic juices are released. This helps in prevention and cures diabetes the nerves supply to the pelvic gets maximum stretches, erectile function is supported by complex neurological function from sensory, sympathetic parasympathetic nerves.

Vajrasanam:

The heel of both the feet should be pressing the buttocks region. This compress the prostatic gland , which produces the enzymes and the fluid to carry the sperms . Prostatic massage is effective in increasing the volume of the semen and the enzymes- alkaline phosphatase.

Yoga for Female Infertility


The most powerful effect of Yoga practice on a persons fertility is through calming, restorative effects on the mind and body. A quiet, stable mind and body promotes fertility.

In addition to stress relief, Yoga has effects by improving the blood circulation, affecting the nervous system, improving the mobility of organs, improving the hormone release, causing muscle stretching and relaxation and also by affecting the mind and the way of thinking.

We will go through various Yogic Asanas (exercises) and find out, how it helps both for male and for the female fertility.
Vipareethathrikonasanam:

The pelvis get tilted in this asana. The pelvic organs get good excercise from this. The internal organs like uterus, tubes, ovaries gets mobilized in the asanas, where pelvic movement is involved.
Veerbandhasanam:

The spine gets stretched and helps in affecting the nervous supply. This can improve nerve supply to ovary & help ovulation.
Padmasanam:

The posture helps in compressing ovaries towards the inner pelvic wall and stimulates it for ovulation.
Vajrasanam:

Here the heels are pressing on to the area, where the pudendal vessels and nerves are passing. The structures provide nerve supply to the perineum, which is the main arousal site in females during intercourse.

This is also good for hemorrhoids (piles) which can have associated dilated veins near the uterus also.
Ardha Matsyendrasanam:

The pelvic tilt causes massaging effect to the uterus, tubes and ovaries. The various problems in the uterus like tumuors (fibroids), polyps, endometriosis can be prevented. The insufficient inner lining (endometrium) is a cause for failure for implantation of embryo (sticking of newborn fetus) even after IVF. The improvement of lining will help better implantation and pregnancy rates. The main mechanism is by improved Vascularity.
Ardha Salabhasanam:

When the legs are stretched upwards, nervous stretching helps in calming down the nerves, to improve fertility.
Dhanurasanam:

The body is being bent like a bow .The ovaries get freed from minor adhesions by the forceful stretch.
Navasanam:

The complete blood circulation is pooled in pelvis in this particular posture and helps all the organs by washing away all toxins and supplying all the immune factors, hormones, vitamins and minerals.
Shada parivartanasanam:

The pelvic tilt in this asana helps similar way as above asanas to internal organs.
Pavanamukthasanam:

The compresson of legs to the abdomen, will help to squeeze insulin from pancreas and thus avoid or even cure diabetes. Diabetes is closely related to PCOS, which will get cured. This also avoids obesity due to better metabolism.
Pranayamam:

This is the master of all the yogic excercises. This helps in reducing the stress and thus improve the fertility. It even improves the desire to have a baby as per studies done in Harvard University. The breathing is controlled voluntarily and is supposed to calm the mind by slow and controlled breathing.
